Newborn hand knitted baby dress
Hey there
Being pregnant in my latest weeks got me making different baby clothing and I am so eager and excited to share this knitted newborn dress pattern with you for free. This knitted dress was knitted with cotton yarn using 4mm knitting needles and from cast on till end measures 38 cm. The upper part is worked in rows, so at the end of each row you will have to turn your work, and from the arms down you can work it as me in continues rounds 😉.
Instructions
K= knitt
P= purl
Kfb= knit 1 into front and back of a stitch, single knit increase
K2tog, k2tg = knit 2 stitches together, single-right-lening decrease
K3tog, k3tg = knit 3 stitches together
RS = right side
Ssk, sst = slip 2 stitches knitting,knitt these 2 stitches together through back loops, single-left leaning decrease
WS = wrong side
YO = yarn over

Wooden buttons
Some scrap cotton yarn for the flowers

Start by casting on 57 stitches
Row 1 knit RS
Row 2 knit WS
Row 3 K2, yo, k2tog, knit to end of row
Row 4 knit

Row 7 Knit
Row 8 k4, purl to last 4sts, k4
Row 9 K8, *(yo, k1, yo, k4) rep from * to last 4sts,k4 75sts
Row 10 K4, purl to last 4sts, k4
Row 11 Knit
Row 12 K4, purl to last 4sts, k4
Row 13 K8, *(yo, k3, yo, k4) rep from * to last 4sts, k4 93sts
Row 14 K4, purl to last 4sts, k4
Row 15 K2, yo, k2tg, knit to end of row
Row 16 K4, purl to last 4sts, k4

Please cast off very loosely
Row 30 K2tg, k2tg, k17, cast off 24sts, k38, cast off 24sts, k16, k2tg, k2tg
Row 31 K2, * (k1, kfb), repeat from * to last 3sts, k3 113sts
Row 32 add 7 sts sow the row will have in total 120 sts. Here you can either join and work on the RS knit either you continue turning at each row and sew it up after finishing and than you will be on the WS and purl. If you want to work the pattern in turning rounds than please add 8 extra sts so you will have 120 +1 .
At row 32 you can either join either continue and you will turn each row. If you want to work in continues rounds you will make a pattern row and next row you will knit all stitches. If you work in turning rounds after each pattern row next row you will purl all stitches . If you choose to work in continues rounds please add stitch marker so you will know exactly where the new row begins.
Pattern
If working in turning rounds please always knit the first stitch and after start knittingthe pattern. If working in continues rounds please knit every row as described
Row 1 Ssk , k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, k2tg, k1 repeat this 8 stitches till end of row.
Row 2 knit all stitches if working in continues rounds or purl all stitches if working in turning rounds.
Row 3 Ssk, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, k2tg, k1 repeat this 8 stitches till end of row.
Row 4 like row 2
Row 5 yo, ssk, k3, k2tg, yo, k1 repeat this 8 stitches till end of row
Row 6 like row 2
Row 7 k1, yo, ssk k1, k2tog, yo, k2 repeat this 8 stitches till end of row.
Row 8 like row 2
Row 9 k2, yo, k3tog,yo, k3
Row 10 like row 2
Repeat this pattern till the project measures 36 cm from cast on. When project measures 36 cm knit last 5 stitch Garter stitch. Cast off loosely.
To decorate the dress I made 3 crocheted roses .
